First half goals from Toni Duggan and Jill Scott put the Toffees on the way into the Quarter Finals before goals from Natasha Dowie and another Duggan strike doubled the hosts lead in the early stages of the second half. USA bound Fara Williams and Jody Handley added further goals for the Toffees before 18 year-old Duggan fiercely fired home to complete her hat-trick two minutes from time as the Toffees warmed up for an important week in fine form in-front of goal.

Arsenal Ladies 3 Leeds Carnegie 2
Scotland midfielder Jennifer Beattie fired Arsenal ahead after 15 minutes to give the Gunners the edge at the break before Ellen White equalised eight minutes after the restart. Welsh International Jayne Ludlow restored the Gunners' lead just before the hour-mark and Rachel Yankey fired the home-side further ahead on 79 minutes, Jess Clarke reduced the deficit three minutes later to set up a nervous ending but, despite further pressure from Rick Passmore's side, the Yorkshire visitors were unable to send the tie into overtime.

Birmingham City 0 Doncaster Rovers Belles 1
Just like the league encounter between these two sides earlier this season, One goal proved to be decisive for Doncaster Rovers Belles arguable the most famous name in British Women's Football to book their place in this years' FA Cup Quarter Finals where John Buckley's side will face the mighty Arsenal. The key turning point of this hard fought encounter at the DCS Stadium arrived in the 35th minute, when Blues Skipper Kerys Harrop was Red Carded after hauling down Rachel Williams from the resulting penalty Rovers captain Vicky Exley dispatched the spot-kick, but Blues hit back through Isabel Christiansen the England Under 19 star desperately unlucky to see her well struck effort rattle the Rovers' woodwork in the closing stages of the first half. The depleted hosts continued to press forward after the re-start but to no avail as the Belles held onto a fragile lead .

Blackburn Rovers 1 OOH Lincoln 0 (After Extra Time Score 0-0 on 90 Mins)
A game that went all the way, Rovers should have settled this cup-tie inside 90 minutes but wasted a guilt edged chance as Katie Anderton missed a second-half penalty. However, with Penalties looming Anderston turned hero following her penalty blunder to send Rovers through in spectacular style with a bicycle-kick just tow minutes from the end of extra-time.

West Ham United 2 Barnet Ladies 3 (After Extra Time Score 2-2 on 90 Mins)
West Ham United Ladies twice came from behind only to be denied by a Claire Thomas' late Winning extra time goal. In a thrilling cup contest between these two Southern Division rivals. Nina Downham hauled the Hammers' back on level terms twice with equalisers, this after Holly Sandow's opener then after a Gemma Rudman had restored Barnet's lead. Thomas scored the match-winner with four minutes of extra time remaining. However, West Ham United wasted a great chance to equaliser with only seconds of extra-time left when Becky Merritt missed a penalty.

Birmingham City Ladies 0 Doncaster Rovers Belles 1
FA Womens Cup Fifth Round - Match Report Patrick Higgins
Doncaster Rovers Belles won a tense FA Cup match against Birmingham at Stratford Town with a Vicky Exley penalty in the 35th minute to earn a sixth round tie away to Arsenal next Sunday. Birmingham City lost their captain Kerys Harrop sent off for the challenge which provoked the spot kick but remained in contention to the last kick as Belles were unable to convert a number of chances during the second half. The Blues closest effort was an Isabel Christiansen shot from fully 35 yards, which hit the bar with Marie Hourihan beaten, but the Belles' keeper had to make two other fine saves to ensure the visitors' progress. Hourihan had been called into action in the first minute with a fine double block from Amy McCann as Blues tore into action. However, Doncaster soon settled and Precious Hamilton swung over a cross from which Rachel Williams' header forced an excellent save from Sue Wood. Chelsea Weston's corner brought a repeat from the same two players. Belles looked dangerous every time the ball was crossed, with Millie Bright or Williams often threatening the Blues central defence of Harrop and Jemma Rose. Williams had a 20 yard shot just wide on twenty minutes, and it was the all action midfielder who provoked the award of a spot kick on 34 minutes. Chasing a lofted through ball against two defenders, her strength took her past both, only to be challenged in a manner, which was deemed a foul by Kerys Harrop, who was seen as the last defender and sent off. Vicky Exley gave Belles the lead and Blues reorganised with Jemma Connor-Iommi dropping into the back four.

The home team found a new determination and created three good chances before the break, a McCann header well saved, a Connor-Iommi lob just over and a superb first time lobbed drive from Christiansen, similar in style to her last second wonder goal in the under 17 World Cup, but hitting the bar in first half injury time. Doncaster needed to shift the ball around more effectively to take advantage of the extra player and this, they did to great effect through much of the second half with skipper Exley increasingly dominating midfield and ex Blues Hamilton and Becky Hall on the wings. A series of well constructed Belles moves saw Exley hit the post and go just wide, Hamilton shot wide twice and Williams have an effort go narrowly over. Blues were having to push forward, sending on Kerry Bartlett and Chrissy Torkildson to add forward threats. The latter drew another good save from Hourihan and when Danni Bird rounded the keeper ,covering defender Claire Uttley was able to clear. Belles always looked capable of adding to their lead, but their finishing was inaccurate, which allowed Blues hope right to the end of the four minutes stoppage time. Christiansen received a booking for dissent and a stern lecture from the referee Helen Fulcher to add to two other yellow cards in a match fiercely contested throughout. Birmingham will hope to change their luck in the remaining league matches and regain the County Cup which they failed to win for the first time in many seasons last year. Doncaster will need to take more of the chances which their quality approach play creates if they are to defeat Arsenal and reach the semi final next Sunday.

West Midlands Premier League - Match Report Mike Kirby-Davies KH Manager
After last weeks' game at Solihull was called off due to frost Kidderminster Harrier’s ladies travelled to Stratford to play high flying Stratford Town ladies. Back in October Harriers suffered a heavy home defeat losing 7-1, but this time around Harriers put in a much improved performance to come away from Knights Lane with a point after the game ended 2-2. In the early stages of the game, both teams saw plenty of the ball but failed to make a clear scoring opportunity. In the 25th minute Harriers ahead when a quick throw in by Emma Askins set Debbie Harris free down the right, Harris cut into the box where she squared the ball to Fiona Williams, who finished off from close range into an empty net giving Harriers the advantage at the break. Harriers started the second half well, but it was Stratford, who netted first in the second period as Lisa Slowther equalised, following a 25 yard-free kick, Slowther sending the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net in the 59th minute. Debbie Harris thought she had netted a second goal for the Harriers a minute later but from just inside the box her shot beat the keeper but came crashing back out off the post. With 15 minutes remaining Harriers added a second goal when Mel Morton finished off the move of the match between Owen, Watkiss and Donnelly, from just inside the box Morton fired the ball across the keeper and into the bottom left hand corner. Stratford pushed hard for a second equaliser, they wasted a number of good chances from the edge of the box and when they did hit the target Harriers goalkeeper Rachel Baldwin was in fine form as she pulled off a number of good saves. It looked like Harriers where going to hold onto all 3 points but in the 88th minute Stratford equalised when Laura Donnelly headed into her own net from a corner as she tried to clear the ball. Next week Harriers entertain Allscott Ladies 2pm kick off at Wilden Village cricket club.

FA WOMENS PREMIER LEAGUE CUP FINAL PREVIEW

Rochdale may not be synonymous with much apart from the fact that former pop princess Lisa Stansfield was born in the Lancashire Town but in less than Ten Days time Two Teams, who by Stansfield own lyrics can be classified as “All Women" head into Town with their eyes set on capturing one of the major accolades within Women’s Football, The FA Women's Premier League Cup Trophy.

Leeds Carnegie Manager Rick Passmore and his opposite number at Everton Mo Marley took time out to speak about next weeks' showpiece Final being staged at Rochdale’s Spotland Stadium on Thursday 11th February. After narrowly missing out on silverware over the past four seasons, Rick Passmoor hopes to finally steer Leeds Carnegie over the winning line as his Yorkshire lasses take on Everton in The FA Tesco Women's Premier League Cup Final on Thursday week.

Having played in Three Finals since 2006 Leeds Carnegie Ladies (previously known as Leeds United) will want to put past disappointments behind them having already tasted defeat previously in one Premier League Cup Final and two FA Women's Cup Finals, After losing out to Arsenal on each occasion. This time Passmore’s side goes head to head with the 2008 winners Everton Ladies, in a match being staged at Rochdale's Spotland Stadium, and although Passmoor acknowledges Everton's status, he is eager for his players' hard work to be finally rewarded with a major trophy in what could be one of the clubs final ever games following the recent bombshell that Leeds Carnegie Women’s Super League bid had hit the buffers due to financial constrains but irrespective of whether the Yorkshire club continues come next August Passmore knows many of his star names will not be around, With the club in limbo as to whether it will be operating next season Passmore will not be drawn on future plans, However, his recent call for the Leeds Carnegie Girls to go out with "a bang" will leave many drawing their own conclusions from the news that has ripped the club apart, and taken the shine off the Club's preparations against formidable Everton Ladies, But Passmore refuses to let recent events off the field over shadow his goals.

"Everton is a top, top side and in Mo Marley, they have got an excellent coach, so we know we'll be in for a tough match," he said. “I think they are a fabulous team. We will pay them the respect they deserve, but if we stick to our game plan and get a little of luck along the way, hopefully we will be going back to Leeds with some silverware. The players have been magnificent for me all season," continued Passmoor. "Because of the recent bad weather, we've only played a handful of games since early November, but I have to take my hat off to all the girls because in training in the last few months they have applied themselves very, very well. "There is a good bond between the players which should stand us in good stead, but we've also got to show resilience and professionalism and put in a performance to be proud of. We've got to play for each other and give a good account of ourselves. “This Final rewards the hard work that has been done by everyone at the club, from the players and coaching staff to the scouts and volunteers. We're all looking forward to the game, and hopefully we can go that little bit further and become winners."

Everton Ladies manager, Mo Marley, believes the forthcoming FA Tesco Women's Premier League Cup Final could herald a big boost in the north of England for the women's game, but said she was more concerned about acquiring the Toffees' second piece of silverware in three years. Everton heisted this trophy in 2008. However, Marley believes her side is good enough to be vying for the major honours' season after season. Speaking about her the clubs' success in the 2008 final Marley said "It was what the club needed; we’re just disappointed that we haven't been there since. We feel that we're actually good enough to be in major Finals and pushing for trophies. We are delighted that we're on our way to rectifying that this season. We're in a major Final; now it's up to us to make sure we win it."

Standing in Everton's way of the Trophy is Rick Passmoor's Leeds Carnegie charges and with only two points separating the sides in the top-flight FA Tesco Women's Premier League, Marley is expecting a strong contest between the two sides "We've looked at Leeds a few times in the build up to The Final," she said. "They're a very good side, they are playing well, and they look really impressive, so we'll have to be on our game. "Like us, they've got a host of international players, both in the England Women's senior side and throughout the youth teams, so there will be a lot of talent on display at Rochdale, I'm sure. As with any Final, this one will be about which team performs the best on the night and every club would think they've got a good chance in a Final when they're not facing Arsenal."

Everton progressed into the Final after goals from Emily Westwood and Natasha Dowie saw them defeat the Gunners 2-1 in their Semi-Final contest to set up a mouth watering clash between two of the north's biggest women's teams. "This is a big game for women's football in the north as both clubs will be able to attract their catchments of fans and both of us want to put on a good display," with Marley admitting. "But, ultimately, both of us are desperate to get our hands on the trophy, I'm sure."

Tickets are available from the Football League Club by calling the Rochdale AFC ticket hotline on 0844 826 1907 (Option 8) priced at £5.00 for Adults,£2.50 for concessions and Under 16's are £2.00.

The tie will now be played next Sunday, 7th February, meaning that the team will have had only two games before their all-important Premier League Cup Final against Everton Ladies "It’s something we could do without, but we’re getting used to it this season,” said Leeds manager Rick Passmoor. “This is the third time this season that we’ve had games called off after overnight stays, both teams were ready to play, the pitch looked in good condition and the ground-staff had worked wonders on it after yesterday’s game. An injury time winner saw South West Combination minnows Havent & Waterloovile Ladies cause the shock of the day after they knocked out Cardiff City Bluebirds out of the Women's FA Cup Third Round. Terri Beddows' headed the hosts into the lead after 34 minutes. However, it took Hawks less than ten minutes to haul themselves back on level terms Lizzie Laws unleashed a superbly executed 25 yard-free which eluded the Cardiff defensive wall and sailed past Nokes. Only the woodwork denied the plucky visitors as Laws corner was clawed on to the crossbar bar by Nokes amid a goal mouth melee Cardiff City were forced to clear the danger before the visitors could capitilise. With the Cup contest heading into overtime Wilson, from six yards, was able to automatically stab a ball into the net which had ricocheted from a blocked clearance, the ball trickling past Nokes' despondent dive and nestling in the corner of the hosts' net in the third minute of stoppage time to seal a historical win for the South Coast visitors.

With 20 minutes remaining Milton Keynes Dons were given hope when Aileen Whelan reduced the deficit as City Ladies failed to clear a free-kick on the edge of the box.Only a last ditch clearance denied Garrett, who saw her goal-bound effort hooked clear of danger by the Dons' defence with the goal bound ball seemily heading towards rolling over the line. Nicola Bray restored the Canaries two goal cushion after 75 minutes following an inch perfect pass from Chelsea Garrett. Jodie Drake put Norwich City Ladies further ahead on 82 minutes after the lively Bray was dispossessed by the Dons' defence the loose ball falling to Drake, who made it 5-2, Lauren Goodier added a third goal for the "Dons" late on. Stratford Town 4 Hereford Pegasus 3
West Midlands Premier Division - Match Report Chris Wells Pegasus Juniors FC Press Officer
Pegasus Ladies travelled to Shakespeare country to play the third placed team in the league and returned home very disappointed they did not manage to collect at a least a point with another promising performance under the caretaker management team. With a number of players unavailable from the team that was successful last week a number of positional changes were made with player manager Karen Hackley returning following injury. It was the home side that started the game well testing keeper Jade Hodges. However, their early pressure was not rewarded due to good defending from Gemma Wadley and Hackley. Pegasus clawed their way into the game following great work from Liz Ranft on the left wing creating the Hereford ladies first chance of the game with a cross which Nina Emery just failed to convert. Pegasus didn’t have to wait long for their first goal, this time the ball was passed out to the Ana Moreina on the right wing that provided a perfect cross for Charlotte Criddle to score with her head. The lead was short lived as Stratford equalised with a long ball over the top which beat the Pegasus defence. The game soon changed again, with Pegasus regaining the lead from a long range shot by Criddle. It was end to end stuff, and it wasn’t long before Stratford gained parity when a mistimed tackle was penalised with a penalty kick. As half time was fast approaching Pegasus got their noses in front, a quick break by Emery when she went through the Stratford defence before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net, making it 3-2 at the break. Stratford started the game with a substitution and a change in formation, and it was not long before they again were on level terms. Pegasus soon had to make a change themselves; an injury to Moreina saw a reshuffle with Heidi Venables being the replacement. End to end football was the order of the day with both teams squandering a number of goal-scoring opportunities. Pegasus conceded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and were caught napping by a quickly taken free kick to gain the lead for the first time. The visitors took the game to the home side but try as they may they were unable to find an equalising goal.

Unison East Midlands Women's Football League - Division One South - Match Report Mark Oliver Kingsthorpe Ladies Manager
Ten player Kingsthorpe performed admirably against their Northamptonshire rivals in this derby, but ultimately the player advantage told. Daventry took the lead in only the third minute, and again in the 19th minute, but Kingssthorpe twice equalised. Firstly, Charlie Norman put Becca Williams in on goal to finish high over the 'keeper, and then provider turned scorer as Norman found herself with acres of space behind the Town defence, composed herself, and fired a daisy-cutter into the bottom corner. Astonishingly, Kingsthorpe then made a mockery of Daventry's player advantage by taking the lead in the 25th minute. Williams was hauled down when through on goal, for which the referee dispatched no card, but Danielle Charlton smashed home an outstanding resulting 25-yard free kick. Kingsthorpe held the lead for a quarter of an hour, but Daventry pulled one back five minutes before the break to end 3-3 at half time. In the second half, Kingsthorpe paid the price for being unable to muster a full team. On an increasingly sticky, boggy pitch, Kingsthorpe tired and the extra player started to tell, especially when fresh legs were introduced from the bench. Daventry scored seven second half goals to win the game convincingly, although Kingsthorpe did manage a fourth thanks to Amy Milligan's good run being rewarded as she slid home a good cross from Williams. Player of the Match: Rochelle Swaine for an excellent performance as sweeper.Next Week Kingsthorpe welcome Long Eaton to Compton Park kick off 2pm.

Northants FA County Womens League Match Report Andy Barnard
With no game since the end of November, Sports Ladies finally got back on the pitch and were unlucky to go down 3-1 to league leaders Abington Athletic at Aynho. The two sides had already met earlier in the season in the county cup with a makeshift Sports side going down only 2-0. Manager Andy Bannard had a full strength squad at his disposal and the 'Blue Belles' knew there was a chance of an upset. This optimism showed straight away on the pitch with Sports taking the lead after only one minute, early pressure forced a corner which Christina Picchianti's perfectly timed header drilled the ball into the top corner for her seventh of the season. Despite looking disjointed at times Sports continued to dominate proceedings and were unlucky not to double their lead on fourteen minutes, Livvi Mortimer charging down a clearance from the visitors' keeper, rounding her only to see herself tackled on the line. The game became more niggly as frustration set in from Abington, and they began to get more into the game. They pulled level on the half hour, somewhat more through luck than judgement; a weak shot crept under the boot of Sports keeper Sam Richardson to pull them back into the game. Sports held on though to keep things level at the break. Knowing at least a point was possible, Sports went into the second half full of optimism, Abington began to take control of the game though putting Sports on the back foot. The turning point of the game came on 54 minutes, Sports Kelly Baker, in an attempt to make a clearance, broke her ankle in the process and was taken to the Horton General Hospital for treatment. The ten minute delay took the wind out of Sports sails and another stroke of luck gave Abington the lead on seventy four minutes, Richardson, coming out to claim an innocuous ball being shielded by Kelly Gell, smashed the ball against Gell's legs and despite a valiant effort the ball crossed the line. With tired legs kicking in, Abington added a third to give them the points in a game that Sports deserved at least a reward for their work. After the game, manager Andy Bannard commented “Gutted about the result but after the long lay off, it was a great performance and just shows the potential we have. To be honest I thought a point was possible but sometimes luck prevails over performance, and we gave them a game, the loss of Bakes (Kelly Baker) for the rest of the season will be a big blow but we are a squad and not a team and I know the girls will dig in and cover and we will continue with the fantastic season we are having. WPS NEEDS "MARTA" AT THE END OF A BAD WEEK

Women’s soccer in the USA has been staggering along an barrier - laden passageway for over ten years, although it has seldom suffered few weeks more troublesome than the past seven days. The downfall of the Los Angeles Sol, the most recognizable and best-supported team in the newcomer Women’s Professional Soccer league, cannot possibly be seen as anything other than a bitter blow to women’s soccer. The WPS Management will try powerfully to structure the unwelcome news as nothing less than a minor hiccup, a casualty of locality and circumstances and nothing short of a move that can strengthen the quality of play in the league as the former player pool is stretch thinly across the League. However, Sol’s sudden death is most certainly a big bitter blow to a league that has suffered from awkward economic woes and limited sponsorship curiosity as the league enters its second season fighting to demonstrate any kind of stranglehold in an overcrowded sports marketplace. However, the Collapse of one team does not send shock-waves through the WPS, to the point that befell its ancestor, the ill-fated WUSA. What the WPS does need now is to take time out to perfect steps and carefully move through the aspiring minefield that beckons. How suitable, then, that the first step must gyrate around the biggest star player in the league most likely to provide such equally and movements with a ball at her feet.

Sol’s abrupt ending leaves enormous questions surrounding the future of Brazilian Marta, the brilliant four-times " Women’s World Footballer of the Year " Marta is the star of the league in her own right, the one player worth the admission price merely on the merit of her own talents. However, soon after the gloomy Sol announcement this week, The rumour mill started to surface in Brazil that there was a possibility the 23-year-old Star would seek to get out of her American contract but WPS League Chiefs have played down such gossip being adamant such a scenario would take place, demanding that all Sol Players will be designated to other teams in the league through a special draft agreement. The WPS holds Marta’s contract and feels it is operating from a position of power, and yet it is highly unlikely that the Brazilian Star would have consented to playing America in the first instance had she not be able to be based in Los Angeles. It will take some smooth quick negotiation from WPS commissioner Tonya Antonucci to capture the slide of adverse publicity and keep Marta playing in the WPS while maintaining credibility at an acceptable level. With Marta still playing perhaps on the West Coast the WPS could retain its claim of being the place where the world’s finest female players' stars come to ply their talents.

Without Marta, the WPS league loses one of its key attractions and selling points, as the future starts to look even more bleak. In the short term, none of the league’s limited television arm-chair audience is instantly going to switch off their TV Sets because the L.A. franchise is no longer kicking a ball. However, Marta was a incentive to watch, with the chance to see her unparalleled skills enough to haul in a few TV channel hoppers for 90 minutes. Her absence would mean the loss of the most beneficial factors in women’s soccer. Whatever the outcome, some tough times lie ahead. WPS officials set realistic goals for the league’s integration and have avoided the kind of fiscal meltdown that beset the WUSA. However, even by going small, building progressively and trimming costs, there have been economic failures with several franchises oozing out between $1 million and $2 million in losses during the first season in 2009, Survival is a monumental challenge for WPS, and it looks set to remain that way but for how long depends on whether this week’s damage can be concealed and whether the leagues biggest star name and attraction Marta can be persuaded to remain exciting the viewing and paying public either way the WPS will need to act quickly to restore some positive public feeling as the second season beckons.

WPS Board Member and Atlanta Beat Chairman T. Fitz Johnson Said. “ All the team owners and members of the Board are confident that this setback will be quickly overcome by the exciting developments that the league has in store for the 2010 WPS Season, This includes two new franchises, the debut of a brand new stadium built specifically for WPS, a longer regular season and an even better product on the field with incoming talent from the college ranks and the many top internationals that have been signed in the off-season, Without question, this season is poised to build on our successful launch year.”

Several of the Los Angeles players, including WPS All-Stars Shannon Boxx and Marta, who are signed to multi-year, guaranteed contracts, and are expected to play in WPS for the remainder of their contracts with other WPS teams following the dispersal draft order on Thursday 4th February which will see eight franchises selecting 19 players from the Sol roster over three rounds in the bidding process.

TIME TO GO BANANAS

A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas.. He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain. Read on:

Never put your banana in the refrigerator!!!

This is interesting. After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again..

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.. Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration have just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school (England) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers.. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking.. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance.. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

SEX: Men should eat three bananas before intercourse and, this will boost their erection for an hour!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around so maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit!!!
